New Favorite Hobby

Not going to lie, at first I would always be a little reluctant whenever someone suggested going hiking, but now I think I may be in love. Of course all trails vary and there are some in forest areas or some right along the beach, so there’s quite a selection for whatever you’re into. My friend and I had been talking about hiking for awhile and decided to go this past Wednesday. LA has been suffering some serious June gloom this week so we thought it would be the perfect time to go. We decided to head to Abalone Cove in Palos Verdes seeing as how we both hadn’t been there before. The Portuguese Bend Reserve was our first option, but after reading recent yelp reviews of a coyote sighting and a substantial rattlesnake population we decided to steer clear.

The drive to Abalone Cove already provides you with a nice ocean view, so that got us excited to see what the actual place looked like. There’s a small parking lot (5 dollars to park) and a path that leads down to the trails. I think the park is made up of maybe 3-4 different trails? The hike itself wasn’t bad at all and the views were amazing! The fresh ocean air was also a bonus, and part of the path allows you to walk right along the water. There’s a pretty cool cave and tide pool area, but the catch is there’s no direct path to get there. You literally have to rock climb/ scale a wall to get there, all without falling into the ocean, which can be quite tricky (especially when carrying two cell phones and a dslr!) but we managed just fine for the most part and it made our hike that much more interesting.

Afternoons in the Park.

I've suddenly become more aware of all the parks within my city. There happens to be quite a few hidden gems less than 10 minutes away. The one I happened to stumble upon today had the cutest garden area perfect for reading or just sitting and chatting. Definitely one of my new faves.

What a View

Hiking is one of the forms of exercise I truly enjoy. I may not get to do it as often as I'd like to, seeing as how most hiking trails are at least a half hour away from me, but when I do hike I get reminded of how much I love it. I love being outdoors, I don't mind the incline of most trails, but most importantly I love the views you get rewarded with during hikes. You get a glimpse of just how beauitful the world is, if you only stop to take a look.
